Preparing for an autumn sale

Preparing for an Autumn sale

For most Victorians, it still feels like the year has barely begun. If you are one of the many homeowners who may be considering an Autumn sale, however, it’s important to keep in mind that the official start of that season is now around three weeks away. That means you will need to start planning and preparing if you don’t want to miss the best of this key time of year.

With this in mind, we’ve prepared a few timely tips on some of the features of your home that you might want to look at over the next few weeks.

  1. Heating – You probably haven’t used it for a while, but if your heating needs a service before Winter, it might be wise to get it done now so that your home is warm as the days get cooler.
  2. Lighting – As the days get shorter, buyer inspections in the twilight will get more common. So make sure your external lights are all working rather than having buyers arrive at your home in the dark.
  3. Paintwork – February is an ideal time to touch up the paintwork around your home, as paint will dry quickly in the warmer weather.
  4. Lawns – If you want your garden to look its best when buyers arrive, it might be wise to give the lawns a feed now.
  5. Get trimming – It’s also an ideal time to prune those branches that are overhanging paths so buyers can tour your garden with ease.
  6. Colour – Last but not least, look for some small additions to your garden that will be flowering in Autumn. Your local nursery will be able to help, but depending on your garden style you might consider alyssum, cineraria or primula.

If you are at all unsure what may enhance your property’s appeal in an Autumn sale, don’t hesitate to discuss your options with one of the team at Ian Reid Buyer and Vendor Advocates before you head to the paint store or nursery. You might find that your property is already ‘market-ready’ in its current condition without spending the time and money on an upgrade.
