Why greenery is growing on us

As we have mentioned in several past articles, one of the growing trends in home decoration is the use of the colour green. Known for its calming properties, particularly in times of stress (such as those the world has experienced recently), green has become an increasingly popular choice for those undertaking home improvements during the pandemic.

However, adding extra greenery to your home involves more than a colour. Even before we began spending more time at home due to the lockdowns, a growing number of Australians were becoming aware of studies that have shown that having plants in your home has the potential to improve concentration, reduce stress levels and improve air quality.

According to some research conducted by Pinterest which looked at emerging global trends, searches for “biophilic architecture” have jumped by 150 percent on the website over the past two years, while terms like “biophilic design”, “staircase garden” and “floral ceilings” have also increased significantly.

In case you haven’t come across the term yet, biophilic design is the practice of connecting people and nature in the context of our built environments and communities.

When you combine a rising interest in indoor plant life with a growing number of interior designers including various shades of green in their lists of top paint colours for 2022, it’s fair to say that you can expect to see more greenery in Australian homes as the year passes.

Having said that, of course, we should remind you that it is important to differentiate between the decorating ideas that you choose to enhance your own living environment, and those that you select if you are preparing your property for sale.

Therefore, if you are considering a sale in 2022, don’t hesitate to have a chat with one of the team at Ian Reid Buyer and Vendor Advocates about your options before you head to the nursery or the paint store. You might find that your property is ideally suited to the property market in its current condition without spending the time and money on a paint job.
